Man city manager Pellegrini has a historical success when it
comes Champions league, taking Villarreal to the semi-finals in 2006, where
they were beaten by Arsenal, and Malaga to the quarter-finals last season. And
while the Chilean insists City will not be damaged by losing to Villa when they
meet holders Bayern, he admits the players will have to pick themselves up from
losing in the Midlands.
“I don’t think this result will have an impact,”
Pellegrini said. “This is not a good moment, but they are professionals and we
know how to raise our head again and we will try to do that next on Wednesday.
It is a different competition, we must turn the page and think about the
Champions League.”
The manager added that City would have to improve greatly in
defence when they meet Pep Guardiola’s side, but denied City grow complacent
when playing so-called smaller teams after they were beaten by Cardiff and drew
with Stoke, both away from home, in league away games prior to the fixture at
Villa Park.
“ I don’t think that is what this team thinks or this
team feels,” Pellegrini continued. “We try to play exactly the same
against the biggest team or any other team.”
