Rafa had the easiest task at
Chelsea, says Chelsea boss. Jose Mourinho has given a
grudging acknowledgement of the work done by Rafael Benitez now Napoli coach who
also his predecessor at Stamford Bridge saying the Spaniard had much less of a
task than he has because he was on a short-term brief.
The Mourinho v Benitez
clashes have entered folklore. They were never the best of friends when
Benitez' Liverpool were twice barring Mourinho's Chelsea from a Champions
League final.
And Mourinho has been very
cutting when assessing Benitez' impact at Inter when he succeeding Mourinho the
year after the Italian side won the Champions League.
Even when re-assuming as
Chelsea boss, Mourinho offered withering comments about winning the Europa
League last season. He keeps saying it is a trophy the Blues should not have
been involved in.
“He did a very good job,
but that was in that moment,” Mourinho said.
“My job has four years. I
want to stay for the four years and build, not just for me, I want to build
for Chelsea.
“Rafa had a different
profile of job. Rafa, after a couple of months, knows he’s not going to stay.
When Rafa said he was leaving Chelsea, in that moment he knows it’s just
for six months or seven months.
“He had two objectives. One
to qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa League. It was not the
profile of his job, the things that I have to work with and he didn’t have to.”
