Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger admittes that his side has potential to
the win the title this season. After an opening day defeat to Aston Villa they have put
together a strong run of form and now sit second in the table.
A narrow victory
against rivals Tottenham and two excellent away performances in the Champions
League have left Wenger’s side full of confidence.
He said: ‘I believe we have a chance (to win the title). My full energy has to
be on making sure we grab that chance.’
Aaron Ramsey’s form has been a particular highlight
so far this season; he seems to be finally over the horrific injury he suffered
3 years ago and is going from strength to strength. He grabbed yet another goal
in the win away at Marseille on Wednesday night.
His manager was full
of praise for him: ‘He has improved tremendously. He has a great engine, Great
Spirit and always wants to be better.’
The signing of Mesut
Özil has raised expectations but there are still questions over squad depth.
Though there might be
some good news on that front as Mikel Arteta is
in contention to rejoin the squad for this weekend’s clash with Stoke City.
Wenger said:
‘The only player who could come back is Arteta. He is back in full training
today. Decision will be made tomorrow morning.’
Arteta will
be important for Arsenal this
season and it is a great boost to have him return to the squad
‘He is a leader - we
are happy to have him back.’
Arsene Wenger addressed Özil’s first couple of
starts and how he is settling in at the club.
‘He has integrated
well. I think he's not at the top physically yet. We are very pleased to have
him with us.’
