According
to Daily Telegraph, Tottenham
Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has challenged his players to bounce back
from their surprise defeat to West Ham United, with the
35-year-old describing Sunday’s result as a ‘wake up call’.
Tottenham suffered a three second-half goals, scored by Winston
Reid, Ricardo Vaz Te and Ravel Morrison, condemned Tottenham to second Premier
League defeat of the season, and their first at home to West Ham since 1999.
The team was booed off at full-time after creating few chances, but Villas-Boas
is not panicking.
He said: “It’s a wake-up call that we have to react to, we
have to bounce back and I trust the team to do that. I think we can’t undermine
what we’ve been doing up to now. Obviously it’s a defeat. Had we won this game,
we would have been just one point behind. It’s something we don’t like, but we
have to put into perspective of what we’ve done before.”
Tottenham are now placed sixth in the table ahead of the
international break, with Aston Villa their next opponents on October 20 before
they face Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League, where they
are currently topping Group K.
